Mariano Medarde, 1899.
The construction of the food market began in 1898 and was inaugurated in 1899. The design was carried out by the municipal architect Mariano Medarde and the engineer Buenaventura Junquera.
Mariano Medarde carried out this covered market project to be built on a plot known as “La Fundición”, located in the area called Puerta de la Villa, a place so known because the Puerta or Arco del Infante was located nearby, which Jovellanos ordered to be placed to commemorate the inauguration of the Carretera de Castilla. Its structure is metallic, formed by cast iron columns, and the interior organization is characteristic of this type of building.
