Santa Catalina Hill

Located in the highest area of the Cimavilla neighbourhood, the Cerro de Santa Catalina is the element that characterises the coastal relief of Gijón/Xixón.
Currently converted into a green area from which you can enjoy the best panoramic views of the city, this park has an important historical and cultural value for the city, having been a strategic area in the development of the town and in its defense.
It has a children’s play area and a skate park. In addition, you can visit the remains of the old batteries of Santa Catalina and in its highest area we will find the most famous sculpture in Gijón/Xixón, the Elogio del horizonte by Eduardo Chillida. It is a concrete structure of almost 500 tons and 10 m high, inside which it is possible to hear the amplified beating of the waves of the sea against the stones of the cliff as if it were a huge conch.
