Isabel La Católica Park

One of the largest and most iconic green areas in Gijón/Xixón.
The Isabel la Católica Park is located on a previously marshy land. In the 1930s, the need to drain the marshes for health reasons and to take advantage of their filling, by dumping slag and demolition materials, to build a park, was raised. The total sanitation was not completed until the 60s.
The park is currently included in the Cultural Heritage of Asturias as a historical garden of Asturias and is considered an Asset of Cultural Interest. 65 different species of plants have been catalogued, with more than 1200 specimens scattered throughout the garden.
